 Dr. Lumu William is a Physician and Diabetologist at Mengo hospital and MULUWIZ Diabetes Center Limited. He is the current President of Uganda Diabetes Association and Vice Chairman Uganda Non Communicable Disease Alliance board. Formerly, member of board of the International Diabetes Federation Africa-region representing East Africa.

He is a senior Lecturer in Internal Medicine and diabetes with Uganda Christian University.

He is the lead consultant for Astra Zeneca Health Heart Africa Program implemented by Uganda Protestant Medical Bureau where over 700 health workers have been trained in Diabetes Mellitus, Hypertension, Cardiovascular Disease screening and management.

 He is a senior mentor with Norvo Nordisk Buddy Doctor Initiative where over 100 doctors have been trained and mentored in evidence based diabetes management.

He was the technical expert in the Gestational Diabetes (GDM) in Central Uganda Project 2016-2018 funded by World Diabetes Foundation (WDF 15-1219) where 10,000 women were screened for GDM in Mengo Hospital and 23 Health Centers in Luwero district. He was the lead expert in developing GDM screening and training manuals for doctors and nurses in Primary Health Care facilities.

He is a PhD holder of Texila American University and his research interests are Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease (ASCVD) risk in Type 2 diabetes and the feasibility of task shifting the role of screening and management of the ASCVD from doctors to nurses in the primary care setting in Uganda.

He has several publications in peer reviewed journals. He has authored a Feasibility Report on Integration of Universal GDM screening in routine antenatal care in Uganda and a patients’ booklet entitled “what you should know about diabetes”
